Spice Things Up!      You've found a great recipe and you're getting the ingredients out of your cupboard.  You open the door to where you keep your spices and there's literally dozens of little containers crowded together, you have to take most of them out before you find the one you are looking for.  Frustrating, isn't it?  I know, I empathize.                I got tired of the frustration, so I decided to remedy the situation.      I discovered this great way to get my spices out of the cabinet and get them organized.  I found these magnetic babies on eBay, had planned on putting them on my fridge, but decided instead to put them on cookie sheets.  It was a little difficult finding inexpensive steel cookie sheets though.  I ordered these online from Walmart, luckily they were on clearance.        A few weeks ago I posted a recipe for Jamaican Pork Stir Fry.  I couldn't find any Jamaican Jerk seasoning at my local grocery stores.  I al

I am having an affair

I am having an affair            I confess.  I'm having a serious love affair with garbanzo beans, chickpeas, gram, Bengal gram, Egyptian peas, whichever name you prefer.  I say garbanzo beans just because it's so fun to say. 😁          Garbanzo beans are nutritious, a wonderful source of protein.  They aren't exactly low calorie, but the health perks supersede that fact.  A half cup has 364 calories, 875 mg potassium, 19 g protein, plus they are fiber rich, a great source of iron, vitamin B6 and magnesium.            They are so versatile.  Salad ingredient, roasting them makes an excellent snack, add a little tahini and olive oil, then put them in the food processor and voila! you have hummus!  Garbanzos are a staple in my house, I buy them canned and dried.      Last weekend I wanted to make some soup, so I found this recipe at Pinterest.      It's North African Garbanzo Bean Soup, and let me tell you it is absolutely, positively delicio

Protein in a Cloud

Protein in a Cloud      Last night I had "brinner".  (Breakfast for dinner).  Most people consider eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuits/toast to be brinner, but I had eggs and oatmeal.  Not just any eggs, but cloud eggs.      One bite of these hen fruits will be all you need to know why they are called "cloud" eggs.  They are so light and fluffy. They look like they would be difficult to make, but they aren't at all.      Turn on your oven and separate the eggs.      Isn't my egg separator nifty?  I found it online, but if you don't have one a water or soda bottle works too.      Whisk the egg whites until foamy, add salt.  Continue whisking until stiff peaks form.  I used my hand mixer with a whisk attachment, but regular beaters would work too.     When egg whites resemble Cool Whip, gently fold in grated cheese.  I used Parmesan because that's what I had on hand, but any cheese would be good, as well as ba
I'm Back!      I'm back!  I haven't died or done anything drastic, I've just been away from blogging because my iPad is old and freezes up a lot.  Thanks to my son and daughter-in-law, I have a brand new laptop-a 2-in-1 actually.  It's taking some, (okay, a lot of) getting used to. It was a very merry Christmas for my family, I hope your was too.      I haven't given up my quest for good health and weight loss.  In fact, I've stepped up my exercising.  Walking is my favorite outdoor exercise, especially hiking in the woods.  I live a half mile from a beautiful park that has several hiking trails. Bad weather forces me to walk on the treadmill. Either way, I walk at least one mile daily, rain, snow, sleet or sunshine.  Today will be my 217th consecutive day.  I begin my exercising with either five minutes of planking or a half hour of yoga.  When I was in high school, I watched Lilias, Yoga and You on PBS, I fell in love with Hatha yoga and did it al
